H2O

Its Hydration Season........

I dont know what the weather is like where you are.... but here in New Jersey its been so HOT! It is so important to drink water through out the day and stay hydrated. Here are some facts from an article I read in Women's Health Magazine (July/August 2013 issue)

We all know that more than half of our body is made up of water.

Dehydration kicks in when you've lost 2% of your water weight. You are now prone to headaches, cramps, and fatigue.

H2O deficiency can also affect the brain. Research suggests that mild dehydration --which may not even make you thirsty-- can interfere with your ability to concentrate and can ramp up stress and anxiety.

Scientists suspect a lack of water adversely affects the nerve cells that control mood.

The Institute of Medicine recommends the average woman get at least 11.4 cups of water a day (this includes fluid you get from food)

You can always check your urine to see how hydrated you are. Pale yellow?? You're fine. Any darker means you need more water. If its consistently crystal clear..... you're trying to hard.

Living In Flip-Flops

HOW SAFE IS IT?

University of Miami Researchers tested one pair that was loaded with more than 18,000 bacteria!! Wash your hands and feet after touching your flip-flops that you've worn. Be sure to soak the flops in a mild bleach solution for 2 minutes every other week.

The Habit: Constantly looking down to refresh your Instagram feed and group-chat with your girls

How It’s Screwing You: It’s called text neck—a slack, untoned neck and jawline caused by breakdown in collagen and elastin. The constant up & down weakens that support structure.

Quick Fix: Hold your phone at eye level to minimize folding, and apply skin-firming, peptide-rich cream on your jawline and neck twice daily.

The Habit: You talk long enough for your phone to get hot while chatting

How It’s Screwing You: Prolonged exposure to heat from any source can increase melanin production in that area.

Quick Fix: A headset or speakerphone is your best bet.

The Habit: You must read that last work email (or tweet or text) before bed

How It’s Screwing You: Artificial light from your smartphone messes with your body’s ability to produce melatonin, the chemical responsible for making you sleepy.

Quick Fix: If you have trouble shutting down before bed, dim the intensity of your phone’s light or make use of the invert colors feature (it turns your screen black and fonts white)
